再貼一段具足三恩根本師長哲蚌洛色林格勒仁波切的開示:
Kadrin sumden means three kindnesses. Your root guru is recognized to have the three kind-nesses. There are ways of counting the three kindnesses in terms of sutra and tantra. In the sutra way it refers to a lama from whom you have received 1) vows; 2) oral transmissions; 3) explanations. According to tantra it is receiving: 1) initiations; 2) oral transmissions; 3) explanations on tantra.
Tsawei lama means root guru. Who is a root guru? Some people, particularly in the west, think that whoever you meet first is your root guru. Wrong. Some people think that whoever you take refuge from, is your root guru. Wrong. Your root guru you have to choose yourself among your gurus; nobody chooses you. Whoever has been more helpful, more effective in getting your spiritual development going – not so much in terms of giving you information or in terms of showbizz – is your root-guru. It is the one who has really been helpful and effective to bring about your spiritual development, the one [from whom you received] the three kindnesses, and the one you select. You take refuge, you take initiation, you take teaching and whatever is helpful, and that is how the root guru is chosen.
