Vajrayogini (Buddhist Deity) - (Naropa Tradition)
Tibet 1800 - 1899 Sakya Lineage Collection of Rubin Museum of Art
Vajrayogini, the 'Khechari of Naropa' (Tibetan: dor je nal jor ma, na ro kha cho ma). Belonging to the Chakrasamvara collection of Tantras and one of the five principal tantric practices of the Sakya School.
At the top center is the Buddha Vajradharma, red, with the hands crossed at the heart holding a vajra and bell. To the right is Shakyamuni Buddha and on the left Sakya Pandita. Below those, on the right are Sachen Kunga Nyingpo and Chogyal Pagpa followed by Vajrasattva embracing a consort. On the left are Dragpa Gyaltsen and Sonam Tsemo followed by Vira Vajradharma holding a damaru drum upraised in the right hand and a skullcup in the left.
Seated at the middle right and left sides are a Sakya and a Nyingma Lama. Below that are Chitipati the pair of skeleton protectors on the right side and on the left Bhutadamara Vajrapani, blue and wrathful with four hands. At the bottom center is Panjara Mahakala with Brahmarupa Mahakala on the right and Shri Devi on the left. |
