Gelugpa Refuge Field (Tibetan: tsog shing): at the center is Lama Tsongkapa, at the peak of a wish fulfilling tree, with the right hand in the mudra (gesture) of refuge and the left supporting a black begging bowl in the lap. A long line of lineage teachers extends upward. Pockets of lamas belonging to specialty lineages are seated at the sides on thrones and banks of white clouds.

Below Tsongkapa are the main tutelary deities of the Gelug School, along with buddhas, bodhisattvas, arhats and wisdom protectors at the bottom. Various sentient beings with arms raised fill the foreground.

Chakrasamvara (Tibetan: khor lo dem chog. English: the Wheel of Supreme Bliss). The foremost tutelary deity of the Wisdom-mother classification of Anuttarayoga Tantra.

Semi-wrathful in appearance, with four faces and twelve hands, in the first pair he holds a vajra and bell embracing the consort Vajravarahi, red in colour. Holding various objects and adorned with wrathful vestments he stands atop the figures Bhairava and Kalagni, a sun disc and lotus seat surrounded by the orange flames of wisdom fire. At the sides stand four attendant dakinis, green, red, black and yellow, each with one face and four hands, encircled by the flames.

Tsongkapa, Mahasiddha (1357-1419): as he appeared in a vision to his main disciple Khedrup Geleg Pal Zangpo.

The standard form of Tsongkapa appears at the top center, along with two other visionary forms at the right and left. The tutelary deity Vajra Bhairava (Yamantaka) stands at the lower center. The 84 mahasiddhas of India fill the fore and background, each with a name inscription written in gold lettering.

Vajrabhairava, Father-Mother (Tibetan: dor je jig je, yab yum. English: Vajra Terror): from the Method-Father class of Anuttarayoga Tantra of the Sarma Tradition.

Dark blue, wrathful in appearance, he has nine faces, thirty-two hands and sixteen legs, embracing the consort Vajra Vetali; surrounded by the flames of wisdom fire.

At the top are various lineage teachers and deities. Along the bottom are the principal protectors of the Gelug Tradition.

Jamyang Kyentse Wangpo. This composition is based on a Guruyoga practice depicting Kyentse Wangpo as a mahasiddha riding a turtle. Other famous teachers of the 19th century such as Jamgon Kongtrul, Zhalu Tankyong and Chogyur Lingpa are positioned surrounding the central figure.
